AI Deployment Leadership

Turning AI ambition into working systems inside complex organisations.

I take AI from first use to everyday practice: governed adoption, agentic workflows and AI products, built hands-on with coding agents. Behind that sits forty years of delivering technology into UK government and large enterprises.

Three types of AI change

AI engagements fall into three distinct types of change. Each needs a different approach, and getting the type wrong is one of the most common reasons AI initiatives stall.

  1. 01

    AI adoption

Helping people across the organisation use AI safely, confidently and productively, through distributed governance, a champions network and a staged path from chat tools to coding agents.

  2. 02

    Agentic workflows

Redesigning core processes around what AI does well, run as a full technology programme with measured success, tight change control and a service wrapped around it.

  3. 03

    AI products

Turning what the business does for its customers into an AI-powered product, so expertise that once depended on people's time becomes a service that scales.

Tools I work with

  • Models and platforms: Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, AWS Bedrock, local open-weight models
  • Coding agents: Claude Code, Codex
  • Automation and creative: n8n, ComfyUI
  • Workplace: Microsoft 365, Google Workspace

Techniques

Agents and tool use, MCP, retrieval over private documents, prompt and context design, human-in-the-loop design, observability, AI governance

Selected work

AI work

Marketing SME

From first steps to staff building their own tools

Took a business from ad hoc AI use to governed, everyday use, through an introduction to AI for everyone, an AI council and small-group sessions that grew from chat tools to coding agents.

Around 85% of staff use AI weekly, and over half have built their own AI tool

Type 01: AI adoption

Marketing SME

A secure AI contracts store that files itself

Staff email a contract to one address. The system reads it, categorises it, files it securely and indexes it for search, with access restricted by team.

100+ contracts in one secure, searchable place, used every day

Type 02: Agentic workflows

Marketing SME

An agentic localisation pipeline: brief to 96 files in 30 minutes

Designed and led the build of a multi-agent pipeline that turns a creative brief into localised assets for multiple markets, guided by expert rules and human sign-off.

Working prototype: 6 markets, 3 formats, 96 files in about 30 minutes

Type 03: AI products

Delivery at scale

UK NATIONAL LAW-ENFORCEMENT AGENCY

Rescuing a stalled service transition

Took over the agency's first move to a multi-supplier IT model, more than a year late, and got it live.

£3.2m projected cash-releasing benefit over 7 years

What people say

I have recruited Richard into two separate organisations now and one of his key attributes is that irrespective of the high levels of ambiguity he always gets the project or programme delivered. If I place a piece of work with him I rest easy as I can trust him to manage costs, suppliers and difficult business stakeholders and he always meets the deadline. Would I hire him again? Well, I have done it twice and would definitely do it again.

Richard is a highly professional and driven project manager who gets things done. He has managed complex technical projects with multiple suppliers and a large user base from business case stage, through delivery, helping transition to business as usual and finally to project closure. He is a pleasure to work with and I would recommend him wholeheartedly!
